Excellent review, really and I'm very close to a buy but I was in a store earlier today which had the Asus UX501 on display. I know it's not the same screen(4k IPS, not IGZO). I noticed what felt like input lag, it could of been the trackpad and I unfortunately could not get a hold of a mouse that wasn't bolted down.

I know the XPS 15 has a quite slow response time at 62ms GTG, but I'm more concerned about input lag, Is that something you have noticed on the XPS 15? I have done some comparisons between my TV which has about 40ms more delay than my 144hz AHVA panel. Just browsing the web on the TV using a mouse causes me to often miss my target compared to my monitor(set at 60hz).

  2. Difference from 4k to 1080p is that relevant? cause I'm about to buy, but I'm not sure if is that important.

  3. german accent, german website, but why qwerty?

  4. pol1250

scaling still is a problem…..plus 4k on youtube does not work with firefox!!

  5. Don't buy this computer. Motherboard and hard drive failure within 2-months. Very disappointed.

  6. I'm really poised on buying this. Need a powerful portable workstation.

    great review. thanks for this!

  8. If I mainly want to use my device for college, but I do play league of legends, should I get this or the surface pro 4? (i also have a desktop but i can only access it on the weekends)

  9. You talk too much and not showing enough man

  10. I am confused between this and macbook pro all what I care about is the screen and I don't see difference between them in reviews

  11. Wow. First time I've experienced the use of time codes. Really fantastic

  12. Why does everyone keep blaming Dell for the tiny application icons, that's not Dells fault, nor is it Microsoft's' fault, but the programmers fault. Until the application development catches up with 4K, you cannot blame the display. If you hare having that much trouble with the resolution of icons/toolbars in the application, then they have compatibility settings for that issue. Can't blame a display for an application that has yet to be developed for 4k. Icons inside the actual application, such as: the icons in Adobe suite, flash player controls in a website, VLC toolbars, and anything else that relies on a third party application to function will not be perfect. So, I would suggest for you to not be a early adopter on a 15 inch 4k screen.

  13. Toooo any owners out there…. Worth getting the 1080p model instead to gain a couple hours extra battery life?

  14. Hi Damir, one more question regarding your review of the Dell XPS 15 Infinity (UHD). Would you say that this laptop with its GTX 960M (2 GB) is a good choice for editing 4K video created with a 4K camcorder? Is it fast enough for this type of work?

  15. Awesome review! Just one question: does the fan noise get annoyingly loud?

  16. Hi Damir, which camera did you use to make this video? Great video quality!

  17. Watching on my XPS 15 1080p. Yes, it is amazing.

  18. Hi Damir,

I like your reviews, keep up the good work.

I have a question. I swapped to a 2013 dell xps 15 last year, which stuttered a lot in Chrome. I received a replacement laptop from Dell which did the same thing. I love Chrome so much I had to send the laptop back. So now I am stuck with my 5 year old Dell. Couldn't swap to Edge. :/

I love this laptop but Chrome is a huge concern for me now. (My ex's Dell 13 (2015) does the same thing woth Chrome. Only Edge works fairly good.)

And you would expect a 2k model to perform easily in web browsers.

I see that you use Firefox. Any experience with Chrome on the XPS 15 infinity?

    thanks in advance!

  20. so many thoughts in my mind now…mbpro 2015, dell xps 15 9550, or waiting 2015 mbpro

  21. Please help me!

I just ordered the Dell XPS 15 version (1080p) with an i7, 256 GB SSD, 8 GB RAM AND the 56 Wh battery. However I am a little bit concerned of the battery life. The computer will mainly be used for students work, web browsing BUT I do tend to game on it as well (it will be plugged in during those sessions).

My question is… will it be worth opting for the version with an i7, 512 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM AND the 84 Wh battery?

I live in Denmark and I was able to get a student's discount of 15 %. In addition I contacted Dell of my concerns regard the battery life and that I would like to replace my current order with the configuration with the larger battery. While asking for this, they gave me an additional discount if I kept the 56 Wh version I just purchased.

In my country the prices of the models AFTER the discount has been applied to the products + the extra discount Dell offered me on the 56 Wh version:

    56 Wh = 1440 dollars.
    84 Wh = 1920 dollars.

Would you keep my current order considering the big difference in price? Or is the larger battery, bigger SSD and RAM well worth it?

  22. I went to my local bestbuy to check out this laptop, the keyboard layout is atrocious. Looking for a new laptop new

  23. So… realistically, is this THE windows laptop to buy for the foreseeable future for someone that doesn't want to make really any compromises?

by the time I have the spare cash laying around to drop on a $2000 laptop, I suspect we'll have more info on the skylake MBP and I want to see what that will bring to the table before making a decision. I'm not married to the windows OS, I just want a premium device inside and out.

  24. Absolutely great review for a worthless and buggy machine. Don't get me wrong – the build, quality and aesthetics of the laptop itself is great. The problem however, is that it is impossible to restart the machine without a glitch. The OS loading processes freezes at the Dell logo – EVERY SINGLE TIME – which means that I have to go through the process of holding the power button down and powering it back up after a few seconds – and in the process, go over various random options – automatic recovery, factory reset (already done this thrice), cannot load / try again. I am not sure if it is Windows 10 or the innards of the laptop itself. Have done everything including updating to the latest Windows 10 stable build and updating the drivers. Terribly disappointed and am really in two minds – should I keep the laptop and try to minimize restarts and never shutdown – because as you rightly pointed out – the laptop looks great! Or should I process for a refund – the latter is not helped by the fact that Dell support is pretty sucky.

  25. The display reflects much, outside you can see it well?

  26. Great review!!  Regarding display brightness: If you go to: Advanced power settings -> Display -> Display Level -> On battery = 100% + Connected to power = 100%. Did this setting helped you to keep your display max bright all the time?

  27. I wish Dell would make one just like the XPS 15 OR 13 but a yoga.

  28. akaNoMe

    Hey,

this is really the best and complete Review as i saw yet! I thinking to switch from my macbook to this bad boy. I read a few reviews and they criticize the high reflection of the display, what is your personal opinion reffering this?
    Many thanks
    Luke
